Free zones are public or private areas of our country , efficiently fenced and isolated , which will be authorized by the Government on the advice of the Honorary Advisory Committee of Free Zones. These Zones are exempted of taxes and other benefits detailed in Free Zones Law. All kind of industrial, commercial activity and service can be performed including:
• trading, warehousing, storage, packing, sorting, grading, portioning, assembling, dismantling, handling or mixing of goods or raw materials from foreign or domestic origins.

• provision of financial services, computer repairs and maintenance, professional services and any other that may be required for the proper operation of the installed companies and the sale of such services to third countries;
• Any other activity that, in the opinion of Government can be of interest for the national economy or the social and economic integration of states.

The movement of goods in the Port of Montevideo will be free. No permits nor formal procedures are required for this . The activities to be met at the port will not mean changes in the nature of the product or merchandise and shall be limited to warehouse operations, repackaging, marking, classification, grouping, consolidation and deconsolidation, handling and portioning. The destination of goods entering the port can be changed freely. These changes will not be subject in any case to restrictions, limitations, permits or prior complaints.
Goods at the port customs area shall be exempted from all taxes and surcharges on imports during the time they stay into this area.
If goods are introduced from the port of Montevideo into the national customs territory, this operation will be considered as imports, and consequently, they shall comply with the procedures and payments that apply.
The national or nationalized goods to be introduced to the Port of Montevideo, must comply with the rules governing the export of goods.
